Week Five

This week has been all about press-ups, singing, and stifling the urge to laugh out loud.
When Scott returned this week, he set us a little test: to do as many push-ups as we could in a minute. Results ranged from 30-something to 88, so we're pretty much fit enough for flight training... but we've got a show to do soon, so no time for that. In the meantime, John and I have developed bigger biceps whilst playing the ugly sisters than we've ever had for male roles!
We also did a lot of singing this week, working on the choral pieces that involve us all, and spent some time developing the drama behind the dancing and the singing at the Butterfly Ball, which is an especially fun bit of the play for me.
We've also been working on certain scenes from Act 2, and I'm not going to spoil the surprise for you, but suffice to say that Julie (who's playing my mum, Mrs Yarg) is still laughing out loud at them. After watching even the most hilarious scene 999 times you could be forgiven for not finding it funny anymore, but Julie still cracks up - when she's not on stage, of course.
Finally we had a run-through on Saturday. Our 'test audience' gave us a lot of really useful feedback, but one thing that kept coming up was that the show is very truthful, even during its extreme and grotesque situations. In times when nerves are beginning to run high, that's a really nice thing to hear.
