Week One

Well it seems the responsibility has fallen to me to write the first Cinderella blog so here it goes…
On day one we arrived in the rehearsal room to a right old spread; brioche, croissants, pineapple, grapes, various fruit juices and, of course, tea and coffee. I must stress at this point that 'the spread' is by no means an everyday occurrence. It was designed to welcome the Cinderella team to the Unicorn theatre. Thus we and the rest of the Unicorn team came together. We sat down and the cast began to read through the script.
I can't remember laughing so much during a first read-through in my entire career, which is a testimony to Phil Porter's hysterical script. Also Martin Ward, our Musical Director, had made a CD with all the music from the show on it. So when we came upon a song in the script, on went the CD. This helped to bring the reading to life and further added to the general excitement in the room about our production.
After the reading we learnt some of the songs with Martin. Whilst we were kept occupied in one corner of the room, Scott Graham our Movement Director took the opportunity to explore some physical work whilst he thought no-one was looking. Only we WERE looking, and as I glanced at the faces of the onlookers I saw a range of expressions, from eager enthusiasm to absolute terror at the thought of having to replicate Scott's acrobatics!
So here we are at the beginning, and all is well. I look around our rehearsal room and see so much talent that it fills me with sense of anticipation. It also makes me feel slightly smug because I know how lucky I am to have the job I have.
