Class Acts
Class Acts was launched in 2007 as a festival to celebrate the talent of year 6 primary school children in London. Participating classes work alongside theatre professionals before performing at the annual Festival on the Unicorn’s Weston stage in early July. Supported by Unicorn’s Education and Production departments, classes rehearse in-school throughout June.

The Unicorn works continually with the National Theatre’s New Connections team to develop the festival. For 2009's event we worked on plays specially commissioned for the festival in 2008 (The Wish Collector by Oladipo Agboluaje, The Acme Thunderer by Lin Coghlan and Of the Terrifying Events on the Hamelin Estate by Philip Osment) with 8 primary schools from across London.
"The whole class gained self esteem from realising that they could perform and that they could make an audience respond and laugh. There were lots of opportunities for the pupils to contribute their own ideas. They won’t ever forget the experience of performing on a professional stage like that."
Teacher from St Saviour’s School, Lambeth
"I thought that I could do this and I knew that I could. I felt a bit confident but not very confident. In the end, I believed in myself."
Pupil from Hermitage Primary School
Class Acts 2010 is supported by HSBC Global Education Trust, John Lyon’s Charity and by Bloomberg through their ‘Discovering Theatre’ programme.
