Youth Theatre
Unicorn Youth Theatre places our groups of young story and theatre makers at the heart of our building and work. We work through drama to enable young people to explore their own worlds, imagine new worlds and realise the possibility of change.
The groups work with professional directors and artists, exploring their own ideas and creating new theatre, which is often performed on one of Unicorn’s stages. They also work alongside our Artistic programme and team as co-creators, artists and advisers. Groups are often brought into rehearsals, involved in the research and development of upcoming Unicorn shows and generally involved in the life of the theatre, whether it be working with the Marketing or Development teams.
We currently run three different groups, which meet once a week after school, during term time with additional sessions during holidays. Members also participate in the development of Unicorn plays, Easter Workshops with UK and International companies and a Summer Youth Theatre project with theatre professionals.
Members are also invited to all Unicorn press nights.

The Youth Theatre is open to any young person who lives or goes to school in Southwark or Tower Hamlets. No previous drama experience is needed – just enthusiasm!
The Unicorn is fully accessible and the Young Company Directors and Youth Programme Manager are trained in delivering accessible participatory arts activities.
Each group costs £10 a term, but is free if you are entitled to free school meals.
All our groups are currently full, but we do have a waiting list. If you would like to be added, please click here to download and fill out a youth theatre interest form (53Kb - opens in a new window), and return it to the theatre.
