Access to Unicorn

Access to Unicorn for people with disabilities

People with disabilities quite rightly have high expectations of access arrangements at the Unicorn and we working hard to make these expectations a reality.

Getting to the Unicorn Theatre

The best way to get to the Unicorn is by public transport, as public parking in the area is limited and there are only a small number of disabled parking bays in the local NCP car park.

The closest London Underground station is London Bridge (Northern and Jubilee lines, with lifts).

From London Bridge station
From London Bridge, it is approximately 5 – 10 minutes walk to the Unicorn. If you have trouble walking distances, you may prefer to take the RV1 bus along Tooley Street two stops.

Recommended step-free route (involves crossing cobbled streets):
1) Leave the station by the Tooley Street / Duke Street Hill Exit. Turn right and walk down Tooley Street, past the London Dungeon.

2) When you reach the pedestrian crossing, which is opposite Middle Yard, cross Tooley Street. There are dropped kerbs and tactile paving. There is a revolving indicator on the crossing.

3) On the other side of Tooley Street, continue along the street in the same direction, crossing first Hay’s Lane (by Hay’s Galleria) and then Battlebridge Lane. There are levelled kerbs and tactile paving at the crossings.

4) Continue down Tooley Street, past the entrance to More London Place and the open area on your left with trees and water sculptures.  After the Hilton Hotel cross Morgan’s Lane, then continue on and cross Braidwood Street.  Both these streets have levelled kerbs but no tactile paving at the crossings.

5) After Braidwood Street, there is a large unnamed site entrance for construction vehicles to gain access to the More London site.  This crossing is patrolled by members of the construction team, who make sure all pedestrians can cross the entrance safely. The kerbs at this crossing are levelled, but there is no tactile paving.

6) The Unicorn Theatre is on your left, just past an old red-brick building and opposite a pedestrian crossing over Tooley Street which is marked by tactile paving.  The Unicorn Theatre itself is identifiable by its large glass exterior and a sloping walkway up to the main entrance.  The entrance is set back from Tooley Street, on a small pedestrianised road called Unicorn Passage.

Arriving by bus
Buses RVI (low floor, wheelchair accessible), 47 and 381 stop at Hay’s Galleria and on Tooley Street near Braidwood Street. From Hay’s Galleria, see points 4, 5 and 6 above. For directions from the Braidwood Street stop, see points 5 and 6 above.

Arriving or leaving by taxi
Your taxi can drop you close to the Unicorn on Tooley Street next to Unicorn Passage. This leads directly to the Unicorn and is opposite a pedestrian crossing and an office building called Magdalen House. It is a pedestrianised area, so your taxi will need to drop you off and pick you up at the entrance to the Passage.

Arriving by car
If you plan to drive to the Unicorn, you will need to use the NCP car park in Snowsfields. Parking in streets nearby is unfortunately extremely limited.
