Trek from Cusco to Machu Picchu
16th - 26th May 2007
We'd like to say a huge thank you to our intrepid team of trekkers who braved this ten-day challenge. They all had a tremendous time visiting one of the most spectacular parts of the world, meeting the local people and enjoying a real taste of Peru. However, we know that the challenge was enormous, not just physically but emotionally too and we are grateful for their commitment, enthusiasm and bravery.
Well done to the team:
Melanie Boyd, Jonathan Cooper, Patricia England, Nigel Jackson, Laura Jacobs, Danny Large, Tammy Large, Lucinda Lord, Jane Macfarlane, Paul Meyer, Chris Moxon, Barbara Powell, Lloyd Scott, Tessa Youell.
Thanks to you all, Trek Peru will have raised in the region of £20,000 for Unicorn's Education Programme.
Why Peru?
Peru is frequently referred to as the 'land of the Incas' and has some of the most spectacular and varied scenery in South America. The Peruvian Andes are arguably the most beautiful on the continent and the mountains are home to millions of highland Indians who still speak the ancient tongue of Quechua and maintain a traditional way of life.
Why the Unicorn?
In 1947 Caryl Jenner founded the Unicorn. She recognised the power of theatre to transform childrens' lives; unlock their imaginations, help them to deal with their emotions and realise their full learning potential. The Unicorn Theatre is a company dedicated to producing professional theatre for an audience of children and their families. Now, some 60 years on, we have a permanent, new home in the buzzing, cultural quarter on the South Bank of the River Thames.
Today the Unicorn is reaching more children than ever. We produce our own shows and bring together work by acclaimed companies from all over the world, presenting challenging and exciting work year round. We involve the community through education workshops, youth theatre and subsidised performances, and offer an opportunity to many children who might not otherwise get to visit a theatre.
Trek Peru has been sponsored by Barco.
