What the company say
“The Unicorn is allowing me to work with some great people who explore theatre in a different way.” Raju, YC Member.
“Being a member of the Young Company has been a magical experience. I've loved working with all the different teenagers here, as well as with all the actors, writers, directors and musicians that I've met. When you join, you're not just a member of the Young Company, but a part of the Unicorn.” Bridget, YC Member.
Information
The Young Company is for 16 -19 year olds who live or go to school/college in Southwark or Tower Hamlets.
The group meets weekly at the theatre and works with a professional director to explore and experiment with making theatre. Working as part of a company, you will have the opportunity to try out all the different areas of creating theatre – performing, directing, designing, playwrighting etc whilst being supported by professional theatre makers. We want to give you space to try out ideas and see what happens.
The Young Company work alongside our Artistic programme and team as co-creators , artists and advisers. The groups are often brought into rehearsals, involved in the research and development of upcoming Unicorn shows and generally involved in the life of the theatre, whether it be working with the Marketing or Development teams.
Sessions are every Wednesday from 6.30-8.30pm at the Unicorn Theatre. There are occasional weekend or holiday sessions.
You do not need any previous drama/theatre experience, just a willingness to work as part of a group and an enthusiasm to learn new things.
The Unicorn Theatre is a fully accessible venue and the Young Company Directors and Youth Programme Manager are trained in delivering accessible participatory arts activities.
Currently all our groups are full but we do have a waiting list. If you would like to be added, please click here to download and fill out a young company interest form (106Kb - opens in a new window) and return it to the theatre.
If you would like to chat about the Youth Theatre programme, please call Ellen Edwin-Scott on 020 7645 0511or email ellen.edwin-scott@unicorntheatre.com,
