★★★★
'one of the liveliest and sharpest pieces of theatre you’ll see this year' Time Out

Beginners bɪˈɡɪnəs / plural noun
1. a person who has just started to do or learn something.
2. a call given to prepare to start a play.

Beginners tells the story of three families trapped in a waterlogged holiday cottage over summer. The children are bored. The adults are down the pub. So far so normal.

Renowned, award-winning writer and director Tim Crouch (National Theatre, Royal Court, Unicorn) presents this joyous and imaginative new play for families everywhere. Beginners is an exquisite, funny and moving story that reminds us that the adult we’ll become - and the child we were - stay with us wherever we go.

An extraordinary Easter Holiday show for everyone who has ever wanted to be understood.

IN THE PRESS

★★★★★ 'a properly grown-up piece of children’s theatre that reaches across the generations' Time Out

★★★★★ 'faultless and true in its child’s-eye view' Sunday Times

★★★★ 'watching it – and the play within the play that the children stage – we expand our belief in what’s possible and how we can overcome what life throws at us. Even if we still feel like beginners.' The Guardian

★★★★ 'single handily one of the most well written and emotive pieces of children’s theatre this reviewer has ever had the pleasure to watch.' The Reviews Hub

★★★★ ‘a gorgeously generous gesture’ - What’s on Stage

★★★★ 'a colourful statement on the power of imagination, which highlights the complexities of growing up and expands our own perceptions on what's actively possible if we just believe.’ - Broadway World UK

'a theatrical feat of the most magical kind' - A Younger Theatre

Audience Feedback

'I thought it was brilliant, absurd, poignant, touching, nostalgic, funny, unpredictable.'

'
It challenges you to work out what's happening - much as the characters are challenged by their circumstances - and ultimately leaves you with a very positive message about life, which is really fun!'

'It had laugh out loud funny bits and moments when I was forcing back the tears'

'As it progressed... the show became more and more funny, insightful and emotional to watch. The visual effects were very good and added to the experience.'

'
For a 47 year old mother to see with her children and then be able to discuss it was an incredible opportunity to talk about all the things that matter to us, friendships, how we change and develop as we grow, kindness, death....... it had absolutely everything!'
