The Hamilton Complex
Presented by LIFT and the Unicorn
Nothing is what it seems when you're thirteen
- Directed by Lies Pauwels
As part of LIFT 2016, a London-wide festival of
international performance, we present a new production by HETPALEIS – one of
Belgium's leading theatres for young people.
13 girls aged 13 – and a bodybuilder. Through dance and movement they borrow, copy and shamelessly fuse past and present. Then pull the rug right out from under your feet. Nothing is what it seems. Their transition into adulthood reflects an ever-changing society.
‘[This] rich collage of images, text, song and dance… filled with emotionality. The music…tugs at the heartstrings' De Standaard
The Hamilton Complex explores how our identity is determined and asks questions about growing up, conforming and maintaining your individuality. A physical, visual and philosophical look at the profound moments in life when everything changes.
FILMING NOTICE: On Friday, 1 July, LIFT will be filming a documentary and some audiences may be included. Please let an usher know if you do not want to be filmed who will then inform the film crew.
