Anansi the Spider Re-spun - digital theatre

Anansi returns for Black History Month.

Anansi returns for Black History Month.

Our enormously popular digital theatre experience Anansi the Spider Re-spun for ages 3 - 8, is returning for Black History Month this October. The free Anansi videos will be accompanied by new free creative learning resources and CPD for teachers to use with pupils aged 4 - 8 to explore the Anansi tales and their place in Black history and culture.

Inspired by our 2019 five-star hit show, Anansi the Spider, about the infamous mischief-maker and master spinner of yarns, we've adapted these classic West African and Caribbean tales for Unicorn Online. Made with our film partner, Illuminations, we've creatively responded to the current situation - the cast filmed themselves in their own homes so that we can bring them to yours!

This fun online performance, featuring music, song and humour is an exciting new adventure - we hope you enjoy it as much as we have enjoyed making it.

As part of Unicorn Online, during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are offering a range of free online theatrical experiences that we hope will be enjoyed by children across London, the UK and beyond.

Free schools resource & CPD for Years 1 - 2

To get access to the resources and to book the live online CPD, sign up using the form. Further below is more information but if you have any queries, you're welcome to contact us by emailing Frey at schools@unicorntheatre.com.

Created by Storyteller and Dramatherapist Sam Adams and Unicorn's Learning Associate Cath Greenwood, within the context of the Black Lives Matter movement, our free digital resource has been specifically designed to support teachers in using creative storytelling and drama activities whilst offering pupils opportunities to play and explore Anansi's world and to reflect on the importance of these stories in our shared culture and history.

To book for our live, online CPD (hosted on Zoom),  join our Anansi learning programme by filling in the form above. We are offering one twilight CPD split across two sessions: 24 Sep and 1 Oct, 4.30pm - 6pm. You can choose to attend just one session, but we recommend booking for both if you can.

Our fun, creative and experiential sessions will guide you through the overall aims of the resource and the activities so you can confidently lead these sessions with your pupils and link this activity into curriculum priorities and further learning. We will also explore the origins and evolution of the Anansi stories and how they resonate with children today.
