Philip Pullman's Grimm Tales online

New theatrical readings of six deliciously gruesome tales.

  • Directed by Justin Audibert, Rachel Bagshaw, Polly Findlay, Tristan Fynn-Aiduenu, Ola Ince and Bijan Sheibani

New theatrical readings of six deliciously gruesome tales.

Enter a perilous world of murderous step-mothers, devious Kings and fearless children…

Adapted by Philip Pullman (His Dark Materials), we’re thrilled to present a deliciously gruesome selection of six theatrical readings from Grimm Tales, re-told for the whole family by an extraordinary cast.

These classic fairy tales, distilled from centuries of storytelling, are timeworn but honed for the next generation to discover anew. Our selection includes classic favourites with new discoveries, and takes us to the very heart of imagination and speaks of the things it finds there - fear, courage, compassion and wonder.

Filmed at the Unicorn and aimed at ages 8 - 12 (School Years 4 - 7), these short, vivid new readings will be on our YouTube channel, for free, from 10am on 5 October 2020 until 21 February 2021.

YEAR 7 PROJECT FOR TEACHERS

SIGN UP FOR OUR FREE YEAR 7 PROJECT

The Year 7 Project is a free six-week scheme of learning created in consultation with clinical psychologist Dr Sarah Wassall, to address periods of transition, change and adaptation.

It includes a live, online teacher CPD session and a written and digital resource pack. The project examines live and digital theatre-making with the company and explores the content of the stories - unlocking narratives around the power of ingenuity and resilience in the face of adversity.

Further below is more detailed information about the resources and CPD. If you have any queries, email Frey at schools@unicorntheatre.com.

FREE RESOURCES - AVAILABLE FROM 28 SEP

The resources use the 'Hansel and Gretel' story as a stimulus for pupils' own creative exploration. Resources include short videos with the company in which they talk about their roles and set students creative tasks.

These activities have been informed by existing evidence based practice drawn from Dyadic Developmental Practice, Compassion Focused Therapy, Polyvagal Theory and Narrative Therapy.

To access the resources you first need to sign up to the Year 7 Learning Programme and then we will email you a link to download the pack.
