Why Support

If you are considering donating to the Unicorn Theatre then you might like to know exactly how and why we need your help. We need to fundraise 25% of our income each year in order to keep doing what we do.

We believe that access to theatre can be life-changing and that all young people should have the chance to experience this opportunity. Through our extensive Community and Schools’ programmes, we offer young people from the widest possible range of backgrounds, ages and abilities the opportunity to engage with our building and to experience our shows.

We run ongoing regular programmes with vulnerable Young Mums and their babies, we develop creative skills and programmes with young people referred to us through our partner organisations. We are committed to working with people long-term to ensure that more people see our theatre as a place for them.

We also work with groups such as SCOPE Islington, Family Action Camden & Islington Young Carers,  Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers,  Lewisham Looked After Children Service, Young Roots (a Refugee and Migrant organisation), and many more.

We have made the commitment to pricing our tickets affordably for everyone. On top of this we commit to offering 10% of our total tickets for a heavily discounted rate or totally free to those who need it.

Trust & Foundations

The Unicorn has longstanding relationships with a broad range of trusts, foundations and charitable organisations.

This support and investment not only helps us to produce high quality work on our stages but also enables us to run a programme of projects alongside it, with schools and community groups and for those who otherwise would not have the opportunity to attend the theatre. All supporters are listed at the bottom of this page.

MariaMarina Foundation has been a generous supporter of our Community Programme for the last six years, helping to offer young people the highest quality artistic interventions, breaking down barriers to theatre access and providing activities and experiences that are engaging and relevant.

One of the incredible projects recently supported by the Foundation was Open Access Week, a targeted artist-led project of theatre making and spoken word for young people from the local area.

Corporate Support

Supporting the Unicorn through your business not only gives you access to some fantastic benefits, but enables us to introduce young people of all ages and backgrounds to inspiring theatre experiences both on and off stage.

Unicorn Corporate Partnership

Our corporate partnerships offer exciting ways for businesses to engage with the Unicorn throughout the year. Benefits are tailored to suit individual company needs and provide unique opportunities to entertain employees or clients and their families, develop new business and fulfil CSR objectives.

Unicorn Community Partnership

Our community partnership offers local businesses the opportunity to make an affordable financial contribution to the Unicorn Theatre, providing measurable positive impact in Southwark.

Payroll Giving

Donate to the Unicorn through Payroll Giving, a flexible scheme that allows any UK taxpayer to give regularly on a tax free basis. Payroll Giving donations are deducted before tax, so each £1.00 you give will only cost you 80p, and if you're a higher rate tax payer it will only cost you 60p. When Payroll Giving is included as part of a company’s CSR initiative, such as Charity of the Year, Payroll Giving can provide a long-term legacy of giving. To boost the effect of their scheme, many employers choose to match their employees’ gifts. It is easy to set up Payroll Giving for your company, see HMRC’s website for further details. If you are an employee, please speak to your employer if you would like to give via this tax-efficient scheme.
