5 Stars

The relaxed showing with BSL felt inclusive and just a wonderful experience to be part of. I honestly couldn’t recommend it enough, I wish everywhere was as inclusive, diverse, interesting and understanding as the Unicorn Theatre.

RELAXED PERFORMANCES

Open to everyone but mainly aimed at people with autism, learning difficulties, or other sensory and communication needs. At these performances, technical changes such as light and sound adjustments create a more relaxed environment in which to experience the show. Audience members are free to move around, make noise, and leave the auditorium. A chill-out space is available for anyone who needs a quiet room and a free Visual Story can be requested in advance to help you prepare for your visit. Here is an Example Visual Story.

AUDIO DESCRIBED PERFORMANCES

Aimed at blind and partially-sighted people, during these performances the actors’ dialogue is incorporated with live commentary that explains what is happening on stage via a headset. Free Touch Tours are also available on selected AD performances to help ticket holders familiarise themselves with some of the key costumes, set and props used on the show. These are around 45 minutes and usually start one hour before the show start time. You can book Touch Tours online together with your ticket for an AD performance or via our Box Office on 020 7645 0560 / boxoffice@unicorntheatre.com.

Headsets for AD performances are available on arrival from our FOH Team.

BSL INTERPRETED PERFORMANCES

Aimed at people who use sign language, during these performances a trained British Signed Language (BSL) signer stands to one side of the stage and interpret the script while it is being performed. For these performances we hold tickets with the best view of the interpreter, so please contact our Box Office on 020 7645 0560 or email boxoffice@unicorntheatre.com to book your tickets.

CAPTIONED PERFORMANCES

Live captioning assists people who are Deaf or hard of hearing or benefit from reading the dialogue alongside the action. For these performances we hold tickets with the best view of the caption box, so please contact our Box Office on 020 7645 0560 or email boxoffice@unicorntheatre.com to book your tickets.

DEAF FRIENDLY SHOWS

Shows that are highly visual with little or no language used are categorised as deaf-friendly.

ASSISTANCE DOGS

Assistance dogs are welcome. We can offer you an aisle seat, and let you know about any special effects that might affect your dog. Alternatively, you can leave your assistance dog with our Box Office staff.
