Following a powerful return season at the Unicorn Theatre this May, Tim Crouch’s acclaimed production Toto Kerblammo!is now heading out across the UK on a national tour, bringing this extraordinary theatrical experience to children and families in Keswick, Edinburgh, Newcastleand Bath.
Supported by a National Lottery Project Grant from Arts Council England, the tour continues the Unicorn’s commitment to connecting young audiences nationwide with ambitious, high-quality theatre and creating more opportunities for children to experience live performance.
Originally returning to the Unicorn’s Clore Theatre following its award-winning 2024 run, Toto Kerblammo! featured a cast of Madeline Appiah (Aunt Voice), Oliver Baines (Noah/Toto), Tim Crouch (Uncle Voice), Sinéad Matthews (Mother Voice) and Lily Olufemi-Bywaters (Effy). The creative team included Designer Lily Arnold, Sound Designer & Composer Helen Skiera, Movement Director Ingrid Mackinnon, Lighting Designer Will Monks and Sound Associate / Sound No 1 Deanna H. Choi.
Developed in consultation with Unicorn Creative Associates — Anjaneya, Cesar, Deetya, Kiyra, Lily, Nia, Simeon and Sophia, the production continues to place young people’s perspectives at its heart.
Blending Tim Crouch’s signature theatrical inventiveness with intimate storytelling, Toto Kerblammo! invites audiences into Effy’s world through headphones and immersive 3D binaural audio. A compelling live mix of sound and action reveals the sounds of things you never knew had sounds — creating a moving theatrical experience about listening, friendship and finding hope in difficult places.
Tim Crouch, writer and director, said:
“I'm overjoyed to have been given the chance to revisit this play. Every new performance in theatre is a revival of its own but this is major: two new brilliant actors bringing fresh life to the story of the girl and her dog. I can’t wait to share it with a 2026 audience.”
Rachel Bagshaw, Artistic Director and Co-CEO of the Unicorn Theatre, said:
“It’s been a joy to welcome audiences back to Tim Crouch’s searing exploration of love, hope, friendship and resilience at the Unicorn. Tim’s work always has a remarkable ability to explore our complex world through exquisite storytelling, creating space for young audiences to engage with big themes that reflect the lived experiences of many children today. As the production now travels beyond London, we’re proud to continue our mission to make our work as accessible as possible and offer vital first encounters with theatre for children nationwide.”
For this production, the Unicorn also partnered for the first time with children and young people’s mental health charity Place2Be to develop audience care resources, helping families and schools engage with the production’s themes and supporting conversations beyond the theatre experience.
