Wellbeing: How to foster emotional intelligence in the classroom

Fri 28 April, 10am-1pm (with a fifteen minute break)

Facilitated by Agape Theatre, in this interactive, informative session participants will think through how to promote empathy and learn a range of activities that may be used to focus students, energise them, and allow them to reflect on challenges.

Aims:

  • Considering empathy and promoting emotional literacy within the class culture
  • Developing psychoeducational understanding of how attachment and socio-emotional needs may present as dysregulation or behaviour in class
  • Learning and exploring creative activities and practical tips to support these needs

The session will make use of psychoeducational theories and practical activities and tools that may be implemented in class to support empathy, regulation, and emotional literacy. Opportunities will be provided for teachers to share prior knowledge, brainstorm new ideas, and practice facilitating activities that can be easily integrated into classroom culture and routines.

I walked away from the session feeling energised and excited about doing the sessions with my class, my head filled with ways I could plan a cross-curricular sequence of work based on the play, with the arts at its core... I came into school the following day and told my colleagues it was the best CPD I had ever been involved with.
