What is the Unicorn raising money for?

This year we are aiming to raise £40,000 to support our Creative Hub.

Our work is not only creating shows: it's providing thousands each year with their first encounter with the magic and joy of theatre.

A child who engages with creativity has greater potential to thrive. And yet this fundamental right is under threat, with under-resourced children and families facing significant barriers due to cuts to the curriculum, rising costs and lack of provision, isolating them from crucial creative opportunities.

That's why, through our Creative Hub, we get local young people directly involved in the making of theatre, facilitating skill development and supporting their wellbeing and confidence through creativity. We work closely with our partner schools to embed creativity into the curriculum and provide free in-depth workshops for 200+ families and children, prioritising those who face barriers accessing the arts.

"We can't overstate the difference this makes to our families, particularly our most vulnerable families who are living in extreme poverty, challenging circumstances or who are working with children's services/social care."A Unicorn Partner School who refer families to Creative Hub

We believe that every child has the right to access great theatre, regardless of financial circumstances. In 2024 we gave away 10,553 subsidised tickets to schools and 927 free tickets to local families, who would not have otherwise been able to access theatre.

"It's so lovely to be able to have access to these tickets for some down time as a family. It is also good to be able to have 'relaxed' performances that are open to all different kids with special needs and not have to worry about trying to keep the children quiet or in one spot for the whole show." — Local Funded Tickets scheme participant
